You're the only one who can break me down like this (2/?)
Title: You're the only one who can break me down like this (2/?)
Author: Jenny (dazzledjem)
Pairing: Robert Pattinson / Kristen Stewart
Rating: Right now PG-13 for some swearing, but will probably turn into M later.
Word Count: 2 114.
Disclaimer: Don't know them, don't own them.
Summary: “But how could he when the woman he was about to face had the power to break him down into nothing but a shadow of the man he once thought he was?"
Note: So, this is the (first) Japan part. I know I said this story would only be in two parts, but this is part two and I'm planning on at least writing one more part when I get the time. English is not my first language, so excuse any grammar mistakes. Please let me know what you think, feedback is always appreciated! :)

February 26th, 2009

She was just about to get a beer when she heard a knock on the door. Her mind and her heart hoped that it was Robert, even though she knew it was wrong and that she shouldn’t have.

“Who is it?”

“It’s me, Taylor.”

Fuck, she thought. She could hear his cheery voice on the other side, and it made her regret making herself known. With a sigh, she got up and opened the door. He flashed her his white Colgate-smile and she just felt like slamming the door in his face. It wasn’t that smile, it wasn’t </i>that</i> hair, it wasn’t that body, it wasn’t those eyes. It wasn’t him.

“Hi there, she said quietly.

She felt like it was a huge age difference between them, even though technically, he was only two years younger than her, and just one at the moment because he had turned seventeen but she wasn’t nineteen just yet. She suddenly noticed that he was too dressed up for a quick visit. She bit her lip and tried to act nice.

“So, what’s up?”

“Well, so… uh… I just wanted to hear if maybe you wanted to go with me to a bar?”

She raised her eyebrow.

“You’re seventeen.”

“Yes, and I’ve been that for a while,” he said, laughing at his own joke.

She wasn’t amused.

“Of course, we would be going with my father.”

She knew there had been some other downside – besides the obvious one, going with him. But she would probably be able to get away from him, and maybe she would even be able to kill some of those rumors about her and Robert, if anyone saw them, but she nearly thought it was worse to be paired with someone like Taylor.

She could never win.

“Sure, I’ll go with you. Let me just change into something… better,” she said and made a hand gesture down to her simple t-shirt and jeans.

“Of course,” he said and was just about to walk through the door when she stopped him by placing a hand to his chest, although regretting it in the next second because he would probably take the touch as something else than it was meant to be.

“I’ll change alone, thank you,” she snapped.

Had he really believed that she would change in front of him?

“Of course. Sorry,” he said and took a step back.

“Whatever,” she said and then closed the door.

She sighed, frustrated that it hadn’t been the person she had hoped for, and that Taylor obviously thought there was something special between them. She grabbed a short but simple black dress and quickly put it on. She didn’t bother to focusing that much on her hair and make-up since she would only be with Taylor, and she didn’t want any unnecessary attention drawn to her. With another sigh she put on a pair of black high heels, and then she opened the door. He was standing there, waiting for her, obviously. It was ridiculous that she nearly as tall as him in her Christian Loubutins. She couldn’t help but let her mind wander, to another man, where she looked so much better beside him than here.

“Wow, you look amazing,” he said.

“Thanks,” she said and tried to show him a small smile. On the inside, she winced. She didn’t want and she didn’t need to hear that from him.

She felt his eyes on her butt the entire way they walked to the elevators.

Keep your eyes to yourself, kid, she thought before pressing the elevator button.

Robert liked Hugh. He wasn’t like every other famous movie star in Hollywood he had talked to. Even though hosting the Oscars and being named the sexiest man alive, he was a cool guy. It was easy to talk to him about things that really mattered, but he was also really funny. He laughed as he watched him sing karaoke at the small bar in Tokyo. He was currently doing a surprisingly good cover of Elvis’ Suspicious Minds, complete with dancing and everything. When he was finished, he got down from the stage. Robert saw him ordering two Heineken, and one of them ended up in front of him where he sat. Hugh sat down next to him before taking a sip of his beer.

“What’s it for, Hugh?” he asked.

“What is what for?”

“When people buy me a beer, it’s because they want something, so, what do you want?”

“I don’t want anything,” he heard him lie. “I just want to talk, maybe sing some karaoke…” he mumbled before he quickly moved the beer bottle to his lips and took a sip.

“Hugh, I don’t do karaoke,” he said and pushed the beer aside.

“Oh, come on. It will be fun.”

“Please. It’s just for fun, nothing serious. Just a few songs. Barely anyone knows you here. It’s not like you’re in the U.S.”

Robert thought it through. What would it hurt? The only one he knew here was Hugh.

“Okay, fine,” he finally said.

“Great,” Hugh said with a big, white smile and got up from his chair. Robert hesitantly followed him to the small stage.

“Would you mind if we sing some song by ABBA? I just haven’t been able to get them out of my mind lately,” Hugh said and Robert nearly began to laugh.

“No, but only if you let me choose the song.”

“Of course you can.”

“Great,” he said, and with a somewhat sad smile on his lips, he mumbled. “Waterloo.”

The first thing Kristen heard when she and Taylor entered the bar – shortly followed by his dad – was that a voice strangely sounding like Robert’s was singing Waterloo.

My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender, oh yeah
and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way,
the history book on the shelf is always repeating itself

Another voice was heard, but that one Kristen couldn’t put a face to. She was almost afraid to look towards the stage. She hoped so badly it was him, but at the same time she didn’t, as always. The rational part was arguing with her, it couldn’t be anyone else than him, not with that voice.

With a deep breath, she turned to face the stage. It was him. She felt her palms become sweaty and her heart nearly skipped a beat, without her even knowing why. She had never acted like this when she was in love.

Maybe because I have never been in love, at least not like this, a quiet voice in her head thought. She tried to ignore it, but at the same time she knew the voice was right.

She had seen him so many times before, but somehow, it felt different this time, like something was changing. She and Michael were currently on a break. It had felt wrong to be in a relationship with him when they both knew another man had stolen her heart. It wasn’t fair to Robert, not to her, and not to Michael either. She had expected to feel more pain, but she had only felt it when the words slipped out of her mouth and then it had been over with, almost. It had been quick, and she was thankful for that.

Looking at him now, she saw all that they one day could be, if neither of them would mess things up. They could be an amazing couple who had everything together and who never broke up, but of course they would fight. But they wouldn’t give up.

She just didn’t know how they could even become a couple in the first place.

He was in the middle of the second verse when his eyes locked with hers. He nearly dropped the microphone, but he managed not to. Instead he just stopped singing.

Kristen Jaymes Stewart. The most beautiful, stunning, infuriating at times, stubborn woman he had ever met. He was about to think innocent, but he stopped himself quickly. She could be, at times, like when she had fallen asleep in his arms all those months ago. But it was such a long time ago and in that time it seemed like she had grown so much and become even older than him. Even though he was supposed to be three years, ten months and twenty-seven days older than her, he didn’t feel like he was. Some of the time he did, but most of the time he just felt like a clumsy 15-year old all over again. She had something to her that made her seem so much older than her currently eighteen years, ten months and seventeen days. He briefly thought about getting her a birthday present, but he was terrible at things like that and it would require for him to come up with something really special. He did not look forward to that day.

He vaguely noticed how Hugh had started singing instead of him, and he was grateful for that. He wondered briefly what the hell she was doing there with Taylor, and what seemed to be his father. His mind tried to be rational about it, but his heart didn’t want to hear it.

As carefully as he could, he stepped down from the stage and started making his way towards her, doubting himself every step of the way. Should he turn around and pretend that he hadn’t seen her? No, that was impossible. She had seen him look at her. He took a deep breath. He couldn’t back out now, for that would be a sign of his weakness for this woman.

Hold your head high, he told himself. But how could he when the woman he was about to face had the power to break him down into nothing but a shadow of the man he once thought he was?

Without even realizing it, he had crossed the room and was now standing face to face with her. He watched her nervously bite her lip, and he had to let out a low laugh when they both reached their hands up to run them through their hair at the same time.

“Hi,” he said quietly after what seemed to be an eternity.

“Hi,” she replied.

She suddenly regretted that she hadn’t spent more time on her hair and make-up, but as if he could read her mind – she had to snort silently at the slight Twilight reference her mind made – he opened his mouth to speak.

“You look… beautiful.”

She felt herself nearly blush. God, I really am turning into Bella, she thought before giving him a small smile. This was a man that she liked getting compliments from.

“Thank you,” she whispered.

He took a deep breath before speaking.

“Look, I know you’re here with Taylor and you probably want to spend time with him, but I would really like to talk to you… about us. And I don’t feel like this is an appropriate place for that.”

Before she could answer him, they were approached by Hugh. He hadn’t even noticed that he had stopped singing.

“Ah, this must be the famous Kristen, right?” he said and kissed her hand. Robert felt ridiculous for feeling jealous for a simple gesture like that.

“In the flesh.”

“It’s a shame you weren’t at the Oscars.”

“I wasn’t invited,” she said simply.

“You sang in by yourself Into the Wild, right?”

“Yes,” she said uncomfortably. She didn’t want him to talk about her previous movies, because she didn’t like when people did. It just made her go through her performance for the millionth time in her head.

“Hm… I wonder how…”

“Wonder what?” Robert asked.

“Would you two do me the pleasure of singing a song up on the stage? I have a feeling your voices would sound magnificent together.”

“Uhm… I don’t think so,” Kristen said.

“Please? For me.”

She looked at Robert, who gave a slight nod. He wasn’t too keen on it either, but he knew Hugh would just keep asking until they agreed.

“Okay, fine,” she said.

“I’ll find a perfect song for you, just come with me.”

They hesitantly followed him to the stage, but he wouldn’t let them watch when he looked at the available songs. Finally, after what seemed like hours but it was probably just a minute, he turned around.

“You can thank me later,” he simply said before getting off the stage.

Robert looked at the TV-screen where the lyrics would eventually pop up, but right now the only thing you could see was the name of the song.

Your song by Elton John.

Again a great chapter. Man I wish we did get pics of the karaoke nite in Japan. Yeah Michael and Kristen taking a break (again wishing that this would be so true in real life). Both of them are so insecure with their feelings and also heartbroken of months of refusing to give in their feelings. Come back soon with another chapter. I want to reaf about the song and of course the talk, the nite and everything else that happend in Japan. Great story and great writing.

OMG! I totally love it. Please update soon cause I wanna know what Rob has to say to Kristen - about them. "Your Song" ... one of my favorite Elton John songs. When I heard they sang that together, my shipper heart soared. The song totally matches them. Thanks again!
